We understand from our Torah teachings that Hashem always returns to us any money that we spend for Shabbos and Yontif; however, there’s still nothing wrong with being frugal and stretching your Shavous budget in a few more directions. This way there’s more to spend on the fun extra stuff.
So, with this in mind, here are 7 ways to SAVE BIG this Shavuos:
1- Need a really great outfit for Shavous without hurting your pocket? Check out this Norma Kamali cap sleeve dress for only $20! With a long sleeve shell underneath its very appropriate, if you know what I mean.
2- Try making your own homemade pizza, and cheesecake instead of buying it. By doing so, you will save money. For example, where I live a Kosher Pizza pie costs around $18 fresh and around the same amount frozen. If you make it yourself, using store bought pizza dough and store bought marinara sauce, it comes out to about $6-$7! My local pizza store sells fresh pizza dough for around $2.50. And Trader Joe’s sells pizza dough for 99cents. You can buy them in advance and freeze them to make your own pizza when you are ready.
3- If any of you follow my blog, The Kosher Shopaholic, I often stress that when I go about finding great savings, I do so while making sure that I never compromise on quality, time or kosher standards – because I know that us Kosher shoppers don’t ever want to compromise on these principles. With this strategy in mind, I’ve found some delectable diary recipes for Shavous -that cost under $8 each to make- without compromising on quality or taste.
4- Make sure to shop for your basic items for your Shavuos dishes such as the potatoes, macaroni, eggs, milk, etc at your least expensive grocer. In the US that would be ShopRite or Walmart or Stop&Shop, etc, using coupons and following your favorite store’s weekly sales which are published online or in the Sunday newspapers. Coupons can also be found in your local Sunday newspaper or online. By following this method, you will be sure to save around 50% on your grocery bill. See my 7 Steps to Kosher Savings post on how to do this in more detail.
5- For some great accessories without digging too deep into your pockets, try Walmart. You can get 3 pairs of gold hoop earings for $1. Can’t beat that! With the price of gold these days, of course they’re fake, but they don’t look it and they make you feel great when you wear them!
6- How do you like this beautiful Paperdoll Girls 2-6x Sleeveless Solid To Stripe Dress

7. Match it to your son’s Calvin Klein Boys 2-7 Long Sleeve Micro Stripe Woven Shirt also for $19.99 and all your kids are matching sets for Shavuos!
